Title:
PhD in Biological management of potato tuber blemish diseases

Research area and project description:
In the project entitled “Sustainability and resilience in organic potato production” (SROPP), we seek a highly motivated PhD student to study biological management of potato tuber blemish diseases with special focus on the interaction between potato plant pathogens and antagonists. The overall goal with the SROPP project is to acquire novel knowledge necessary to optimize the efficacy of biological control agents in organic potato production systems, and to use this knowledge to develop innovative disease control tools and integrate them into management strategies that will enable the sustainable management of late blight and tuber blemish diseases (TBD) in organic potato production.

The PhD project will (1) study and create a knowledge foundation for the identification and exploitation of biocontrol agents (BCA) to control TBD in organic potato varieties and to ascertain the factors that influence their efficacy, and (2) develop methods for assessing the resistance of organic potato plant varieties to TBD. The project will have special focus on black dot (Colletotrichum coccodes) and silver scurf (Helminthosporium solani) diseases in potatoes.

As PhD. Student at Department of Agroecology you will meet a workplace characterized by professionalism and equality and you will be offered competent supervision, well-developed research infrastructure and modern laboratories. Our research climate encourage lively, open and critical discussion within and across different fields of research.
