Title
PhD in Crop production and weed management in an AgriPhotoVoltaic system

Research area and project description
The combination of solar panels and agricultural production has the dual use of farmland areas by combining electricity and agricultural production. Both systems have individually been optimised while combining them is much less investigated. The Ph.D. candidate will use an already established AgriPhotoVoltaic system with crop rotation and measuring instruments like weather stations and ceramic suction cups. Crop and weed management will largely be based on using an agricultural robot mounted with different sensors and equipped with different implements like a weeder, sowing machine, and sprayer.

The established AgriPhotoVoltaic system will be the foundation for the Ph.D. study and is the core area for doing experimental research. It has two different crop rotation systems and the main task for this current Ph.D. position is to focus on agrobiodiversity, weed management, and sustainable crop production. Weed management can be mechanical, chemical, or using other relevant techniques. The robot is equipped with high-quality RGB cameras and part of the Ph.D. must include our image weed library. Therefore, the Ph.D. candidate must have some experience or interest in working with weed images. It is a further advantage if the Ph.D. candidate has experience in annotating weeds from images. The PhD candidate will be able to develop related research questions based on their interests.

This Ph.D. position offers an opportunity to collaborate inter-disciplinary with other scientists on a common goal to develop sustainable crop production with a high degree of agrobiodiversity. However, it is important that solar production is concurrently maximized, and it will of course be a balance of the two productions.
