A clinical position as senior consultant in Psychiatry at the Department of Psychiatry West, Slagelse at Psychiatry Region Zealand is open for appointment as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 10-year position as clinical professor (chair) of Psychiatry at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position at the Department of Psychiatry West at Psychiatry Region Zealand, the psychiatric hospital wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

About de department: Psychiatry West

The Department of Psychiatry West in Slagelse (DPW) is an independent department with reference to the hospital management. The department covers mental health services for adult citizens in the western part of Region Zealand, i.e. the urban areas of Slagelse and Holbæk. The department has five inpatient wards with a total of 97 beds, an emergency admission unit with 12 beds, an emergency intensive care unit with 8 beds and several psychiatric outpatient ambulatories and clinics, as well as specialized treatment units. The department has comprehensive pre- and post-graduate teaching obligations concerning medical students, doctors, nurses, psychologists and other health professionals.

DPW is managed by a chief psychiatrist and a chief nurse. The department is organized with a team management for each inpatient ward and outpatient unit, comprising a lead nurse and a lead psychiatrist.

Clinical functions

The senior consultant will be expected to have a regional perspective within Psychiatry Region Zealand. For the current position, the senior consultant will work with development, implementation, training and supervision.

Research and teaching

Psychiatric research in Region Zealand is organized with a Psychiatric Research Unit and local Research Units at most Departments. Research collaboration across departments is extensive, the researchers being united in fast growing research networks around three main themes: “Body & Mind”; Psychotherapy & Psychopathology” and “Implementation and User Participation”. In total, Psychiatry Region Zealand employs more than 20 PhD-students, three post-docs researchers, senior researchers/associate professors, UCPH professors and SDU professors.

The successful candidate will be expected to be responsible for building an emerging research group based on external funding and participate in ongoing research in Psychiatry Region Zealand. Research focus is expected to be clinical, cross-sectoral and epidemiological research on patients with mental disorders.

University teaching duties relate to pre-graduate teaching in Psychiatry (5th year medical school) as lectures, student activating teaching (tutorials) and thesis supervision.

Qualifications

Applicants must be a board-certified specialist in Psychiatry.

Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to Psychiatry Region Zealand (the senior consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as senior consultants at Psychiatry Region Zealand.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor, at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g., research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the Management of Psychiatry West The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from the department of Psychiatry West. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the management of the department of Psychiatry West, Psychiatry Region Zealand.
